The Innovator's Mindset - George Couros

In the weekend I received the book The Innovator's Mindset - by George Couros in the mail. I have been looking forward to this book arriving and have not been disappointed. There is so much in this book and I have been reading it all weekend!

In this book the author encourages teachers and principals to empower their learners to wonder, to explore and to become forward thinking learners. I am looking forward to sharing this book with the team and working through it.

At school we have been talking about how we begin to form a shared vision for our school. One of the strategies suggested in the book is What If?

This process is meant to help you dream big and to figure out what is important for ourselves and our educational organisation as we move forward.

I love this idea...

Some of the examples in the book

- What if schools operated as if we should all be learners, as opposed to students being the only learners?
- What if everyone in our school community, not just our students were encouraged to pursue his or her dreams?
- What if people were always our first focus, as opposed to stuff?

And now one from me...

- What if we created a school where children were knocking down the doors to get in - (as described by Dave Burgess in Teach like a Pirate).

What if we could do this at St Francis of Assisi Catholic School... What if? Just saying!
